What’s the Deal With Women and Covid-19 Vaccine Side Effects?

Let’s continue to Think Healthy! I’m Doctor Puja, I’m a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician. Today, we take a look at one key finding that may contribute to vaccine hesitancy.  Let’s clear things up!

Do Women Get More Side Effects from the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Press Play & Listen to the Explanation

Do women really have more side effects from the Covid-19 vaccine?  And should this prevent you from getting the vaccine?

It’s well documented in the medical literature that women, generally, describe more side effects with many vaccines.  For example, we see this with influenza, hepatitis B, and MMR vaccine. And, now we’re starting to see this for the Covid-19 vaccine.   THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD DELAY GETTING THE COVID-19 VACCINE.

The medical community isn’t entirely certain why women describe more side effects.

Among the many prevailing theories:  hormonal changes, pain tolerance, immunity factors, and perhaps women are just more involved with monitoring and reporting vaccine side effects than men.  Whatever the case may be, please get your COVID-19 vaccine.
